ஐபிஎல் 2011ன் நாயகனாக ஒருவரை தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டுமென்றால்
அனைவரின் ஒருமித்த தேர்வாக கிரிஸ் கெய்ல்தான் இருப்பார். எதிராக பந்து வீச வேண்டிய பவுலர்கள் கெய்ல் புயலால் திக்குமுக்காடி காணாமல் போனார்கள். இங்கே கெய்ல் பட்டையை கிளப்பிக்கொண்டிருந்த அதே நேரத்தில் அவருடைய மேற்கு இந்திய தீவுகள் அணி பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு எதிராக நடந்த டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் பரிதாபமாக தோற்றதை பார்த்திருக்கலாம். அவர்கள் தோற்பது ஒன்றும் புதிதல்ல. கடந்த சில ஆண்டுகளாகவே நிலைமை அதுதான். ஆனாலும் க்ரிஸ் கெய்ல் மேற்கிந்திய தீவு அணிக்கு விளையாடி இருந்தால் அந்த அணியின் வெற்றி வாய்ப்பு அதிகரித்திருக்கும் இல்லையா?
அவர் மட்டுமல்ல அருமையான பந்துவீச்சாளரான லசித் மலிங்கா.. ஐபிஎல்லுக்காக இலங்கை அணியின் இங்கிலாந்து தொடரிலிருந்து விலகியுள்ளார். பிரட் லீ, ஷான் டைட் போன்றவர்களும் இதே வழியில் தங்களது ஓய்வை அறிவித்து உள்ளனர். தனிப்பட்ட அளவில் இவர்களது முடிவில் உள்ள நியாங்கள் புரிந்தாலும், கிரிக்கெட் பார்வையில் பார்க்கும்போது அச்சத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது.
இந்தியாவிற்கு கிடைத்த பொக்கிஷங்களான கம்பீர் மற்றும் சேவாக் இருவரும் உலககோப்பை வெற்றிக்கு பெரும் தூண்களாக இருந்து உதவியதை இந்திய ரசிகர்கள் அவ்வளவு எளிதாக மறந்துவிட முடியாது. ஆனால் அடுத்த மாதம் இந்திய அணி , மேற்கு இந்திய தீவிற்கு செல்லும்போதோ அல்லது இங்கிலாந்து செல்லும்போதோ இவர்கள் அணியில் இடம்பெறுவார்களா என்பது சந்தேகமே ! தங்களது உடலுக்கு ஓய்வு கொடுக்காமல் ஐபிஎல்லில் விளையாடும்போது ஏற்பட்ட காயம் காரணமாக இருக்கலாம் இல்லையென்றால் உலகக்கோப்பையில் காயமடைந்த உடலுடன் ஐ பி எல் விளையாடியதும் காரணமாக இருக்கலாம்.
இந்தியாவை சேர்ந்த பல இளம் வீரர்களை ஐ பி எல் உலகிற்கு வெளிச்சம் போட்டு காட்டியிருப்பது நல்ல விஷயம்தான். ஆனால் இந்த இளம்வயதிலேயே பெரிய வாய்ப்புக்கள் கிடைக்கும்போது 20-20 க்கு மட்டும் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்து தங்களது முழுத்திறனை வளர்த்துக்கொள்ளாமல் மழுங்கி விடுவார்கள்.
குறிப்பாக லக்ஷ்மணை போலோ, திராவிடை போலோ ஆட்டக்காரர்கள் கிடைப்பார்களா ? சுழல் பந்து வீரர்கள் பந்தை சுழற்ற முயற்சியாவது செய்வார்களா ? இவற்றை எல்லாம் சரியாக தெரிந்துக்கொள்ளவும் வளர்த்துக்கொள்ளவும் டி20 போட்டிகள் ஒருநாளும் பயன்படாது.
இந்த போட்டிகளின் தொலைக்காட்சி உரிமை கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒரு பில்லியன் டாலருக்கு விற்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் போட்டிகளின் எண்ணிக்கையை கூட்ட ஸ்பான்சர்களிடம் இருந்து அழுத்தம் இல்லாமலா இருக்கும் ? இது இன்டர்நேஷனல் போட்டிகளை நிச்சயம் பாதிக்கும். வீரர்களின் பங்கேற்பு குறித்து அனைத்து கிரிக்கெட் வாரியங்களும் ஒரு திடமான அணுகுமுறையை கொண்டு வர பயப்படுகிறார்கள். சின்னஞ்சிறு கிரிக்கெட் நாடுகளான நியூசிலாந்து மற்றும் மேற்கு இந்திய தீவுகளில் விளையாடும் வீரர்கள் தனது நாட்டிற்கான போட்டியை விட ஐபிஎல்க்கே முக்கியத்துவம் தருவார்கள் என்பது திண்ணம்.

UDRS - Controversy that is waiting to explode
Indian cricket team does not like UDRS because Sachin Tendulkar would not have scored those centuries with reviews in place.
Dhoni does not like it as he is against polluting the genetics of a machine with that of a human being.
ICC should show their mettle against BCCI and stop making mockery of International Cricket that has spread over to hundreds of countries through their patronage.
Graeme Smith wants uniform adherence of UDRS irrespective of race and color. And so, he does not like Indian board’s arrogance against UDRS when SA was playing against Pakistan in Middle Eastern desert.
What else! I have heard enough about UDRS through bulletin boards, interviews and Page 2’s.
And as a sane person, I should realize the benefits of incorporating newer and better technologies. And when ICC comes up with a statistics that shows a 7 % increase in correct decisions, I should do more than welcoming it.
As a fan of Indian team and someone who is actively involved in those intelligent bulletin boards, I am naturally obliged to come up with reasonable and justified excuses supporting Indian team’s childish petulance.
And as someone who comes from southern state of Tamilnadu, dreams came to my rescue.
And so, I dreamt up the following scenario.
It is a day after the fools day and so naturally south Africa does not feature in the finals. (2 knock-out matches before the finals!)
Wankhade stadium is buzzing with anticipation of Dhoni’s men lifting the trophy whose faulty design only allows the following characters A-u-s-t-r-a-l-i-a to be inscribed in it. (New trophy was designed for 1999 world cup and being used since as a rolling one. And it was a designed by an English company and so the fault)
My television captures the image of the Giant Screen from the stadium. One ball to go. 3 more runs required.
Even my wife’s laptop has temporarily ceased with an image of spiral webs which indicates an impending flashback in one of those classical movies that trusts the viewers intelligence.
Australia won the toss and with a spirited century from Mike Hussey and with late order fire works of Mitchell Johnson managed to score 294 runs.
And india´s chase went through many a resurgence to be realistic. And finally we ended up in a scenario where Sachin is facing Lee´s final delivery of the match. (And anyone questioning on why sachin is playing till the last ball of a WC final will be tightly slapped as it is my dream)
And on a side note, india has got one UDRS review pending and Australia has got none.
After a vociferous mid pitch discussion, Ponting decides to bring up the fine leg to the circle.
And now Lee is steaming in.
And the ball is a pitch perfect leg stump Yorker. It takes the edge of sachin´s bat and hits his toe before rolling onto fine leg boundary. The stadium explodes into joy. I am dumbfounded.
Hold on. Australians appeal ferociously for leg before.
Aleem dhar is not sure. And he knows that india has a review pending. And so, he raises the hand slowly. Sachin immediately signals for the review. A divine like silence engulfs the stadium.
And off course the television shows the big inside edge of sachin’s bat. Aleem Dhar reverses the decision. And a nation of billion erupts.
What is happening here? When did Aussies become such a good losers? Why are they celebrating?
Let us stop the dream here.
With the current set of ICC rules on reviews and dead balls, Australia is the winner.
Would you take this situation for a 7% increase in right decisions?
And as a part of justified excuse, I came up with the above scenario. And I have only touched upon the process side of UDRS. I haven’t yet questioned the technology. As an intelligent blogger, you should give yourself some leeway for future discussions and arguments.
Why didn’t ICC foresee this situation and asked Australia to chase the Indian target? I am going to pose this important question in all the bulletin boards for the next few weeks.
Post Script – Why can’t ICC draft a law that allows the ball to be in play after umpire declares a batsman as "out". It is a minor tweaking in laws which is already in place partly for 3rd umpires referrals on run outs. I am definitely against it as it does not allow me to celebrate those famed moments of sports which we all crave for. But with modern professional sport, this is where it should end up. And I don’t believe that ICC should wait for a controversy before moving on to this direction.
